Eurest Services has extended a major European contract with Royal Dutch Shell to include the petroleum and energy firm’s businesses in North and South America.

The extended contract for hard and soft services across Canada, the US and parts of Latin America has doubled Eurest’s annual revenue with its client to £200m, making the deal one of the largest FM contracts ever, Eurest said.

The extended contract will allow Shell to rationalise the number of existing FM contractors in the Americas from more than 150 down to one.

Eurest Services will continue to provide a wide array of services including catering, vending, cleaning, reception, mechanical services and electrical services at a variety of sites including headquarters, refineries and mines.

The contract comes after Eurest Services’ work with Shell International won the partnership-across-borders category at the third annual conference for the FM sector across Europe, EFMC2009, in Amsterdam this past summer.

Eurest, part of the Compass Group, began its relationship with Shell in early 2007 and now provide services to the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland, the North Sea, Nordic Offshore, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Greece.

Ron Edwards, Shell’s global category manager for real estate, said the Eurest Services model has delivered sustainable efficiency. “its focus on its people and health, safety and environment while consistently achieving results has ensured that we have met all of our objectives,” he said.

The Latin American countries are Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Peru and Venezuela, as well as Trinidad.

Hard services include M&E, HVAC, fabric maintenance and minor building projects.

Soft services include food and vending, cleaning, reception, mail room, janitorial, office and business services, helpdesk, chauffeurs, pest control, grounds and landscape, reprographics and waste.

Eurest Services generated annual revenues of around £11b in the year to 30 September 2008.

At the EFMC2009 conference in Amsterdam, the Eurest Services entry in the Partners Across Borders category was its five-year contract to deliver integrated FM at 70 of Shell’s offices, refineries, remote gas plants and offshore platforms in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Poland and the North Sea.

Judges told the 300 members attending the gala dinner at the Okura Hotel that the Eurest-Shell partnership “transformed FM at Shell from a traditional base to a highly successful and fully fledged European partnership” across borders.
