BIFM Awards 2015 - Learning and Career Development
Catering and refrigeration maintenance contractor McFarlane Telfer has won in this year’s BIFM Award category for learning and career development.
McFarlane Telfer provides reactive and preventative maintenance for commercial kitchens, supporting those in business & industry, education and healthcare through a facilities management customer.
The company has been rewarded for its investment in staff development, which comprises a mix of activities including technical. commercial and people skills.
Despite the inherent risks of the job, the company realised that the industry did not have formal training, nor qualifications, nor even an accepted standard as to what might constitute an appropriately qualified catering engineer.
Last year each employee undertook an average of thirteen days of training and development per employee. As well as its frontline technicians (from novice to team leader) the company also offers a tailored management training programme.
The firm prides itself on its retention of staff due to its people-focused approach.
“Our people are our primary source of advantage”, says McFarlane Telfer.
BIFM Awards judges praised the firm’s staff. “From the boardroom to the shop floor they display a passion for learning and development, with a well-structured and varied learning and development programme based on a very good understanding of the long-term benefits their investment brings them.”
“We consistently achieve a 98 per cent satisfaction rating on our jobs as rated by instant feedback by our customers,” the company states.
