BIFM Awards 2015 - New Product or Service of the Year

The Skanska Waste Management Service (SWMS) from Skanska Facilities Services has been given the accolade of best new service at the 2015 BIFM Awards.

The service was developed as a response to increasing demand from the National Health Service (NHS) market for a managed clinical and non-clinical waste management service. Its aim was to provide increased compliance to government standards, as well as positive social, financial and environmental savings.

Objectives included improving control of waste disposal methods, reducing costs and increasing internal waste segregation, compliance, innovation and safety.

SWMS uses a mobile workforce, accessing data stored in the cloud so that it is always accessible to the team and the healthcare trust’s management. Cloud storage also helps to ensure that tasks are completed and reported on in a timely and efficient manner.

A behavioural change programme ensures teams on the ground follow optimised waste removal practices, while regular auditing provides stable compliance data to ensure further improvement.

The company also sources the most competitive waste management sub-contractors from each local area.
