BIFM Awards 2017 - New Product or Service of the Year

Enabling clients to lift the lid on which toilets and soap dispensers are getting greatest use, and thus likely to need maintenance, has given Rapid Washrooms the New Product of the Year award

Through its use of real-time data to detect hotspots and identify peaks and troughs in usage, the Waterlooville based company has enabled its clients, which include Heathrow Airport and English Heritage, to maximise value for money and ease of management over their bathroom facilities.

Offering a fixed monthly service cost, the company absorbs responsibility for both monitoring and refilling soap dispensers and toilet cleaning chemicals from the client, while also providing a full set of real-time and historical data, to enable cleaning and maintenance to be more effectively scheduled.

Through a project at Heathrow Terminal 2, the Rapid Washrooms team delivered a range of benefits to the client. These included moving from reactive or routine maintenance and consumable renewal to a predictive and preventative model, to free up staff time through better planned schedules and the installation of a centralised reservoir of cleaning chemicals that delivered a more efficient dispersal of demand.

Following the project, product failures and consumables running out was reduced to zero, while there was a significant reduction in overall washroom complaints.

Offering his endorsement of the service, Blaise De Souza, general manager for ISS, Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport, commented: “The introduction of Rapid’s smart washroom equipment has significantly reduced complaints from passengers using these facilities in Terminals 2 & 4 at Heathrow. We have also been able to deploy resources more effectively with the data we have from the different systems.”
