Developers expect more renewables involvement

16 January 2009

A third of developers expect that they will design or build renewable energy systems and end up managing them, according to a survey by law firm Taylor Wessing.

Types of management included joint venture, sited by 14 per cent of respondents, financial investment, also 14 per cent, and procurement, according to 16 per cent.

Just under 45 per cent of respondents had ‘no’ or ‘some’ understanding of energy performance certificates and display energy certificates.

The 800 respondents to the survey were developers, architects, property agents and investors.

In December, Galliford Try Renewables won a contract to supply the first batch of 27 wind turbines across the Tesco portfolio.

The 6kW turbines will be installed at 20 stores located throughout the UK.

The award follows the installation of a trial turbine at the retailer’s store at Newton Aycliffe in Co Durham.

Last year Bsria has published a guide to understanding renewable technologies.

The new guide explains the wide variety of systems that provide cleaner ways of heating, cooling and powering buildings that includes absorption refrigeration and combined heat and power.
