14 October 2008

The top achievers in the FM industry were celebrated at the 8th annual BIFM International Investors in FM Excellence Awards last night.

The Harrow Green-sponsored event was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, with 1,200 of the industry’s key decision makers and influencers gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of their colleagues.

GMTV presented Penny Smith welcomed guests to the stage while BIFM chairman Iain Murray thanked the judges and all of the sponsors for their valuable contribution to making the evening an outstanding success.

Following an entertaining stand up show by comedian Omid Djalili, the presentations began with the ‘New Build Award,’ sponsored by HSS Hire, which was given to Rio Tinto for its regional centre.

The judges were looking at the extent of FM integration throughout the whole process of planning, designing, building and operating a new facility.

The ‘Impact on Organisation and Workplace’ award, sponsored by Reliance Facilities Management, was won by EC Harris. The highly commended award went to Siemens and Schroder Investment Management.

The winner of the ‘Best Practice in a Fit-out Project Award’, sponsored by Planned Lighting, was Nomura International for Nomura House, client conference and executive suite.

The highly commended certificate went to Morgan Lovell.

The fourth award - ‘Best Practice of FM in a PPP project’, sponsored by the BIFM, was won by Cofathec. As there was only one valid entry for this specialist sector, the judges felt unable to complete the judging process but BIFM presented Cofathec with a certificate of recognition for their project 'Oldham Lift'.

The award for ‘Best Article in FM Journalism’, sponsored by Mitie, was won by Martin Pickard for 'Dear Guru'.

The winner of the ‘Innovation Award’, sponsored by Hays Xenon, was PHS Washrooms for Flush Wiser WC Flush Control.

The judges also awarded highly commended certificates to Backbone Furniture and Skanska Facilities Services.

The award for Innovation in Systems and Services, sponsored by Hochtief Facility Management was Sodexo for Sodexo Lab Instrument Services.

The judges awarded a highly commended certificate to Dalkia and New Look.

The award for ‘Sustainability’, sponsored Business Moves Group, went to Interserve Defence and SEC for PriDE Goes Green.

The judges also gave a highly commended award to Thurrock Council/Europa.

The ‘Technology Award’ sponsored by RS Components was presented to RNM Systems.

The winner of the ‘Customer Service Award’, sponsored by Larch Consulting,  was Carillion Facilities Management for One Piccadilly Gardens Asbo Scheme.

The award for ‘Student of the Year’, sponsored by Land Securities Trillium, went to Joanne Ray, as the student who has achieved the best performance during this past year.

The award for ‘Communications and Marketing’, sponsored by FM World, went to Dalkia.

The penultimate award, the 'Hays and BIFM Judges Special Recognition Award', was a new category - it went to Flood Recovery Hull.

The final award - the prestigious ‘Facilities Manager of the Year’, sponsored by Linaker, was given in recognition of outstanding personal performance and development and went to Tricia Stanley from Sodexo.

Full coverage, including a complete video of the evening, will appear on the special awards page on the BIFM website soon.
