Businesses in the healthcare sector are wasting thousands of pounds a year on charges and fines by failing to keep up with green legislation.
But according to the Environment Agency, businesses that regularly access guidance from environmental law website NetRegs can save up to £5,296 a year in unnecessary costs.
Set up by UK environmental regulators the Environment Agency for England and Wales, the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency in Scotland, NetRegs is a major source of guidance on environmental law for UK SMEs.
Already covering the office, hospitality and tourism, and animal care sectors, the site has recently launched a service for the healthcare sector.
Healthcare guidance includes energy management, emergency response and storing materials and equipment, as well as waste and water management and vehicle emissions.
“Many businesses may find that they only need to make small changes to their practices to comply with environmental law,” said Richard Martin, NetRegs programme manager. “With consumers being increasingly concerned about the green credentials of service providers, these changes will also bring big benefits in terms of customer perception.”
