RS Components has been fined £100,000 and ordered to pay costs of more than £44,000 after a maintenance engineer was killed in a warehouse accident.
The Nuneaton-based firm pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, noted a report in the Coventry Telegraph newspaper.
The prosecution was brought by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council following the January 2005 accident that killed the 51-year-old man.
Peter Hudson, who was married with two married sons and four grandsons, had worked for RS Components, on the Bermuda Park industrial estate, for two-and-half-years. At the time of the accident he was undertaking work on an automated crane system in the warehouse.
The Coventry Telegraph noted that a statement issued by RS Components said that the firm was “committed to minimising accidents in the workplace with a strong health and safety culture. We sincerely regret the accident and fully accept our responsibilities in this matter.”
