IMTECH TO MAKE SWINDON HOSPITAL ‘ENERGY EFFICIENT’

5 December 2018 | Herpreet Kaur Grewal

Imtech has secured an energy efficiency scheme at the Great Western Hospital (GWH) in Swindon to reduce its carbon footprint and deliver cost improvements to frontline patient care.

It will partner with the Carbon and Energy Fund (CEF) Imtech’s Low Carbon Solutions team, which will identify various infrastructure energy-saving solutions that aim to reduce GWH’s carbon footprint by 2,300 tonnes a year.

The solutions will be delivered across the hospital estate and include the provision of low-carbon energy through a new CHP unit, phased migration to LED lighting and redirection of waste heat back into the system.

Following the implementation of the infrastructure solutions engineers will then ensure that the systems are operated and maintained to optimum levels over the next 15 years. The team, working closely with the CEF, will continuously monitor and report on the carbon reduction and energy savings.

Andrew Dobbie, operations director, Imtech Low Carbon Solutions, said: "This builds on our successful energy-saving solutions currently being delivered at both Harrogate and Sheffield Hospitals and continues to strengthen our capability in the low carbon and healthcare sectors."
