The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has awarded a five-year contract worth £227 million to Interserve as part of an ‘integrator’ service model being launched to manage the DWP estate.

The new contract model, with Sodexo as integrator, will replace the DWP’s existing Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract, which is set to end on March 31, 2018. Interserve's contract, as part of the new model, goes live the next day.

Interserve’s deal will see the firm working across the DWP’s estate providing mechanical, electrical and building maintenance services. It will also provide cleaning, catering, waste disposal and confidential waste destruction services to the 700 buildings and 1.3 million square metres of space operated by the DWP across the UK.

Speaking about the integrator model, Interserve explained that the new model would allow the DWP to “focus on transformational objectives and strategic estates management, whilst being supported by a supply chain of specialist organisations to deliver the specific services needed to operate the DWP estate”.
