TECHNOLOGY IS A MAGNET FOR ATTRACTING AND RETAINING TALENT, SAY BOSSES

More than two-thirds of businesses (68 per cent) believe that technology is important in recruiting, motivating and retaining employees.

 

The report by TomTom Telematics, a provider of fleet management and connected car services, shows the increasing productivity (19 per cent), increasing sales (11 per cent), lowering business costs (11 per cent) and improving customer service (11 per cent) were the most commonly cited motivators for adopting new technology.

 

The study was conducted among 200 company managers (middle management or above) through an online and mobile survey in France, Spain, Poland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

 

Some 200 respondents were spoken to in each region. The fieldwork was handled by OnePoll.

 

Half of businesses (49 per cent), however, believe that there is a lack of reliable advice for those looking to introduce new technology systems, with 24 per cent citing a lack of information from providers as a major challenge to adoption. Other key challenges they cite include a lack of expertise within the organisation (29 per cent), an inability to find a provider that fits with the organisation (31 per cent), and cost (38 per cent).

 

Beverley Wise, director of UK & Ireland at TomTom Telematics, said: “Businesses need to work with disruptive technology or risk being left behind by their competitors.

 

“We commissioned this research to paint a clear picture of the current technology adoption landscape for businesses, highlight the challenges they face when adopting and to advise on what trends they should be paying closest attention to.”

 

Despite the significant role technology plays in the workplace, just 41 per cent of businesses say they are early adopters of technology innovations, and almost a third (32 per cent) say their use of technology at home is more advanced than at work.
